Robot Wars Lightning v Thor

Gravity (and lost) in the second round. We (Lightning) now faced Thor in our second round, one of the most powerful hammer bots around. The floor was slippery, and Thor was very low to the ground with the most powerful weapon of the two. But Lightning had great control, and could see the blows coming. Who would win to face Dutch robot Gravity in the heat final? … Calvertfilm Laurie Calvert Robot Wars robotics technology fights fighting Lightning Thor Seventh War Engineer Richard Team mate …

Jayne was a nice friendly lady though, much nicer than PF. I never met the blonde girl.

and then the next fight he has to kinda eat his own words :)

anyway i think Craig Charles could do better (i could do better) than JP but thats what you get for making a football commentator do robot wars

  3. Garfie489 says:

yeh i think the previous 2 pit presenters where much better

also remember the last fight with herbinator he said “a small flip will not keep you in robot wars boys the idea is to move around, fight

Right pod is usually the fav pod because it has the best view of the pit. We normally got beaten to it but not this time.

Yeah, just wait when I see that Mr J Pearce next…..taking the micky out of me. I was only having a bit of fun.

Funny thing was, when I said ‘wait for the thunder’ (which was meant to sound sappy as a micky take) Jane Middlemass didn’t react at all! She just asked me another question.

Mad the lot of ‘em! Especially Mr Pearce. Why was Lightning playing dead? I was stuck! How many fights has he seen?

    Gotta laff.

    Gotta love JP`s voice at 4:00 :)

also just noticed something is this the only fight you get the right pod :)

you know no matter how many times i wacth this fight its still really good out of the 550 views i think 500 of them are mine :)

    WOW IT THE OLD THOR

  8. Calvertfilm says:

Good point – the zones outside of the Roaming Robots arena that allow a flipped OOTA robot to get back in within a time period, is a great idea. You have to drive it well to get back in time.

  9. Garfie489 says:

yeah and last time i sore fluffy it looked like refbot dropped his fire extinwisher on him there was so much smoke

  10. Calvertfilm says:

LOL. Yeah because their own batteries suffered in an earlier round. These days the new Thor is more robust.

  11. Garfie489 says:

yeah the robot wars arena was the best

big, great obsticles, allowed spinning weapons, and looked great

all that could of improved it zones along the lengh (like in roaming robots) that allow you to get back in the arena but every side has a challenge (like series 1 + 2 thats great for the robotiers and audiance alike so on 1 side it could be sumo basho another get the ball in the net to open the side (ok they are not the best))

  12. Garfie489 says:

yeah they got thier batteries from fluffy what you expect :)

  13. Calvertfilm says:

    p.s. thanks for liking Lightning.

  14. Calvertfilm says:

They had their chance after I drove up on to them but they had no real power left. The banging and crashing of their own weapon (not connecting with Lightning) had meant their bot had taken a lot of shocks and Lightning had taken heardly none. Their batteries were shaken about and one of them damaged, so they had very little weapon and motive power. They were a sitting duck, which was why I opened the pit then. Their fate was already sealed. But they are a great robot!

thor should of pitted you when you where on the edge but lightning is one of my fav robots

  16. Calvertfilm says:

Well thanks. All we could do was wait for Thor to weaken, by staying away from his powerful hammer blows, then going on the offensive, pushing him into arena obstacles. Biding your time is tricky, waiting for the moment to attack. Then open the pit, and drive him in. Mind you I made an error reversing up on to him but we all make errors at some point. Thankfully I made up for it once released with a fast dispatch down the pit of oblivion! Most satisfying :-)

    what a stragagy

  18. Calvertfilm says:

Well I’ve never fought in the main Roaming Robots Arena but I think Jonno has done a wonderful job constructing it.

But the RW arena with plenty of House Robots would be the one I’d pick. Lightning is designed to work in an arena with plenty of House Robots to take the opponent to, and lots of obstacles to use, such as the flames, and the pit. That was Lightning’s main form of attack.

Mind you we did win against Tornado in a smaller Roaming Robots arena and win by pinning on the wall.

  19. Garfie489 says:

so do you prefer the robot wars arena to the roaming robot one then

  20. Calvertfilm says:

It would be more difficult. But with arena obstacles we’d stand a chance. We could pit him, or push him somewhere dangerous.

  21. Garfie489 says:

do you think you could take on the new thor thats in roaming robots in either the old robot wars arena or the new roaming robots 1

  22. Calvertfilm says:

    Well thanks.

  23. Garfie489 says:

he always tends to laugh at the robots that are good doing mabe stupid things (or experianced ones anyway)

not saying your where being stupid plus he did say you are one of the perconalitys of robot wars and i bet you he would say lighting was a good robot

  24. Calvertfilm says:

Never ever even saw him. Do you really think he likes me? You’re being sarcastic perhaps? He was taking the micky all the way through, after I hammed it up for the cameras (all good fun, and takes a bit of guts). But he did acknowledge us as a good team. The robot/driver/team did the business here anyway.

  25. Garfie489 says:

i think JP likes you did you get to talk to him after
